Tips and Tricks to Help You Time Your Trip to Florida!

Historically, Florida has been one of the most popular destinations for tourists in America. This popularity, however, can make traveling to and visiting the Sunshine State an expensive endeavor. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you figure out the best time to plan your trip so you can get the most bang for your buck:

Timing is Everything!

Tourist Season

When it comes to visiting popular tourists destinations, the key to an affordable, enjoyable trip is timing. You'll want to go in the off-season, when prices are lower and crowds are thinner. When it comes to places like Florida, though, the off-season can be difficult to define. The warm weather means there isn't really a bad time to visit, but the humidity, bugs, and hurricanes can complicate things. The height of the tourist season falls in both summer and winter. North Florida is a popular place to visit in the summer when school is out, especially between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Though temperatures can be unbearably hot in the lower half of the state during the summer months, they tend to be more bearable in the North. South Florida, on the other hand, is a favorite tourist destination in the winter when temperatures and humidity levels are the lowest. The peak of tourist season occurs between mid-December and mid-April, when the average temperature high is around 75 degrees and humidity is at the lowest point.

Off Season

Both sides of Florida share the same off-seasons in spring and fall. This can be the ideal time to plan a trip, though the weather can put a damper on any vacation taking place during these months. In spring it tends to rain a lot, which increases humidity and bug activity. Hurricane season can cause the biggest problems though, as these storms can cause flooding, wind damage, and power loss for weeks at at a time. Hurricane season runs roughly from June through November. Hotels and attractions can be cheaper during these months, though, due to the threat of storms. If you do decide to go to Florida during this time, know the evacuation routes ahead of time, and be sure to keep an eye on the weather reports. The good thing about hurricanes is that they generally take a while to develop, and are usually detected far in advance of any potential landfall.

The Best Time

The ideal time to visit Florida is sometime in the spring, between late March and May. Temperatures tend to be hot (in the mid 80s) but not the unbearable 90 - 100 degree weather usually found in the summer. There are fewer tourist around during this time, and though it tends to rain a lot, the storms are usually pretty short in nature. Since this is off-season, hotel and tourist attractions tend to be relatively inexpensive.

Bundle Up!

This is Florida, so we're not talking about jackets and cardigans here (though you may need them for the frigid air conditioning found in most buildings). Theme parks and tourist attractions, however, can offer some great bundled deals during the off-seasons. This can be a great way to get discounts on Disney tickets, hotel rooms, and flights. Bundles are only beneficial, though, if you are actually interested in everything being offered - don't go for a bundle unless you really want everything in the deal!

Florida is a beautiful state full of many incredible natural wonders, beautiful beaches, and fun theme parks. While there is no bad time to visit this amazing state (except maybe during a hurricane), be sure to go in the off-seasons to make the most of the lower prices and thinner crowds. Spring can be the best time to do this, just don't forget to look into bundled deals to make the most of your trip!
