Essays: varieties of work
We are pleased to read some essays in the next journal or collection. Others - run through the eyes and do not remember. Still, others become literary monuments. And the matter is not only in the talent of the author. Much depends on what topic you are revealing and to whom you are writing.
There are many types of essays. For example, there are philosophical, artistic, historical, spiritual and religious, literary and critical essays. In form, they are divided into notes, letters, lyrical miniatures, reviews. By the method of presentation - on descriptive and narrative, analytical and critical, essay illustrations, classifications, and others.
Let's start with the simplest way of presentation.
If you give examples in the illustration, then in the essay-argumentation some facts confirm your statement. So, what is an argumentative essay for you and how do you think the main point for its writing. It is important to build these facts logically. Unlike illustration, here the author presses on a rational link, but not on emotions.
In this essay, we describe an object. It can be a flower, any product, a person or an animal, the work of an artist or a film - in short, anything. In the description, it is important not only to convey the main characteristics of the object - appearance, smell, texture but to reflect their feelings. There is no place for criticism and analysis in the essay description, but subjectivity is still present - in the very signs that you noticed, in the wording, in the emotional coloring.
A subtype can be used to describe the process. In some ways, it is associated with the narrative: you describe any actions in chronological order, but there is no place for conflict in the text.
Essay story Action, action and only action! Narration is a chronological presentation of events from the first or third person. This may be a short biography and a story about some important events. The main components of this essay are the plot, climax, and denouement. Accordingly, there must be conflict.
The text you are reading with a stretch can be called an essay classification. We take the concept, isolate a principle, create a classification. Thus, we consider the topic deeper.
In the classification, you dismember the concept. In comparison - take another, a related concept, draw parallels, look for similarities and differences.
Everything is simple here: your goal is to prove a statement. For this, you select and give examples. These examples must prove your words.
Causal analysis Cause → effect. Your essay can be built on this. You are no longer just presenting the facts, but analyzing and building them into a logical chain.
As you can see, the text can have a different structure and different goals. The choice in favor of a particular genre or method of presentation depends on the goals. Having become acquainted with different ways and genres, you can already understand how to write an essay in your case.
